How to redact a pay stub
Open your pay stub PDF below, drag black boxes over your Social Security number, employee ID or anything else to hide, and download the new PDF.
- Stays on your device
- No account
- Nothing saved
Try boxing the employee ID, the bank account and the health plan line.
Parts of a pay stub you can box
- Your Social Security number (often already masked to the last four), employee ID and the bank account your pay goes to.
- Deductions, such as a health plan or retirement contribution.
- Anything you leave unboxed stays readable, such as your name, the pay date, gross pay and net pay.
On the sample stub, hiding the ID, the deposit account and the health plan takes three boxes and leaves gross pay ($2,600.00) and net pay ($1,926.40) readable.
Two or three stubs make three short files. Each page in the new file is a picture, 1,224 by 1,584 pixels for a letter-size page.
Questions
Can I redact a pay stub from my payroll site?
Yes, once you've downloaded it as a PDF. Most payroll sites offer a PDF or a Print to PDF option.
My stub is a photo, not a PDF
Scan it to PDF first; most phone scanner apps save a PDF. Then choose it here.
Will the numbers I keep still be readable?
Yes. Pages are saved at twice their screen size, so small print stays sharp.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The stub opens in your browser and the new PDF is made on your device.
